Chanel named Leena Nair, an executive of Unilever, as its new Global Chief Executive, based in London, on Tuesday.
Alain Wertheimer, a French billionaire who owns Chanel with his brother Gerard Wertheimer, will become worldwide executive chairman, according to the company.
Nair worked for Unilever for 30 years, most recently as the company's chief of human resources and a member of the company's executive committee.
Nair will join Chanel in January, according to the firm, which is known for its tweed suits, quilted purses, and No. 5 perfume. The new appointments will assure Chanel's "long-term success as a private company." according to the company.
