General Motors announced on Wednesday that it will extend a production standstill for the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle for two more weeks in order to speed up the development of new battery modules and prioritize recall repairs.

In August, the nation's largest automaker expanded its Bolt recall to include more than 140,000 vehicles in order to repair battery modules. Since Aug. 23, GM's Orion Assembly factory in Michigan, which manufactures the Bolt, has been shut down.
