Singapore's manufacturing production decreased by 3.4% YoY in September. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output climbed by 9.4%. Manufacturing output increased by 7.2% on a 3-month moving average basis, compared to a year ago. Manufacturing output fell by 2.8% MoM, seasonally adjusted. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output decreased by 5.1%.

Precision engineering output increased by 30.2% YoY, with output increasing in both segments. The machinery and systems segment climbed by 38.4% and the precision modules and components segment grew by 13.5%. In the first 9 months of 2021, the precision engineering cluster increased by 21.0% YoY.

Transport engineering output increased by 12.9% YoY. The aerospace and marine and offshore engineering segments climbed by 21.7% and 9.9% respectively. In the first 9 months of 2021, the transport engineering cluster increased by 5.6% YoY.

Chemicals output increased by 12.4% YoY, with all segments except the specialities segment seeing output increases. The petroleum and petrochemicals segments grew YoY by 26.1% and 18.6% respectively, and the other chemicals segment increased by 9.9%. Conversely, the specialties section fell by 1.5%. The chemicals cluster increased 9.6% YoY in the first 9 months of 2021.

Electronics output climbed by 4.9% YoY, as all segments except for computer peripherals and data storage experienced output growth. The electronics cluster grew year to date by 17.7% YoY.

General manufacturing output fell 2.7% YoY. The miscellaneous industries segment increased by 21.0% whereas the printing and food, beverage, and tobacco segments decreased 14.5% and 16.0% respectively. The output of the general manufacturing industries cluster grew YoY by 6.8% in the first 9 months of 2021.

Biomedical manufacturing output fell 35.9% YoY. The medical technology segment increased by 2.4%, whereas the pharmaceuticals segment fell by 46.2%. The biomedical manufacturing cluster grew YoY by 1.4% year to date.
