Sony Group teased details of its next-generation virtual reality headset for its PlayStation 5 console on Wednesday, as the Japanese conglomerate tries to gain a foothold in the young sector amid increased interest from tech heavyweights.

The PlayStation VR2 will contain an OLED display, integrated cameras to follow players, and feedback provided by a built-in headgear motor and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

"Players will experience a unique range of sensations," Sony claimed in a statement, without specifying visuals, pricing, or a release date.

While Sony is a virtual reality pioneer, its last PlayStation VR device, which debuted in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, did not prove to be a huge sales driver.

After Facebook changed its name to Meta to emphasize its concentration on the region, virtual reality, and the metaverse, or the idea that consumers will spend more time in shared simulated worlds, has become a big talking topic.

Sony, which makes electronics, music, and movies, also announced on Wednesday that it would form a new firm dedicated to electric vehicles as it considers entering the industry.
