American Airlines and Winding Tree, a Swiss travel platform, announced a partnership on Tuesday that will allow business buyers to directly access American Airlines' flight data without the use of intermediaries.
Winding Tree is a decentralized travel marketplace based on Ethereum that was founded in 2017 with the goal of making travel cheaper for consumers and more profitable for suppliers.
Global distribution systems (GDS) such as Amadeus and Sabre, which use real-time inventory technology, now provide data on flights and accommodations to travel agencies and corporate travel bookers.
Companies like airlines and hotel operators will be able to publish available inventory directly to their clients via Winding Tree's platform.
"We're always exploring for new methods to provide our customers with access to American's content in the most accessible way possible," said Neil Geurin, American's managing director of digital and distribution.
Winding Tree will provide a framework for American's leisure bookings program with corporate purchasers as part of the cooperation. The program will be able to directly negotiate special offers with American Airlines.
"While marketplace connectivity is generic, the Ethereum blockchain ensures that each relationship is unique to the private agreement between seller and buyer, allowing for personalized content pricing between the two parties," said Pedro Anderson, Winding Tree's chief operating officer, and co-founder.
American Airlines has joined a growing list of partners in utilizing Winding Tree's decentralized marketplace to engage more directly with purchasers.
