- As investors evaluated scorching American inflation statistics and contradictory remarks from central bankers on the prospects for interest rates, Asian markets and US share futures slumped on Wednesday.

- Australian, South Korean, Japanese, and Chinese equity benchmarks all declined. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell more than 10% from its peak in January.

- Contracts for the S&P 500 fell after the index finished little changed on Tuesday. The Nasdaq 100 futures fell as well, despite the fact that the index, which is more susceptible to increased interest rates, rose 0.7% on Tuesday.
